Hartley believes that genres force an audience to respond in a certain way. We expect our audience to feel sadness for the girl in our product throughout the whole thing, possibly making our product a tragedy.
Bordwell stated that audiences use a number of frames to make sense of a media piece. A lot of frames could be used to make sense of our product, such as the different settings and different lightings and different camera compositions representing different messages throughout our product.
The sad tone at the start of the product may help suggest to our audience what genre it is, which may give them a variety of expectations. Neale believes that genres help audiences understand texts, which also supports this view. I personally believe that the audience may expect a happy ending with this product, which will possibly make the ending more emotional and hence conform more to the tragedy genre.
