I used YouTube to see what artists mainly revolved around Daughter's tracks. The most popular results were Ben Howard, Foxes, and XXYYXX
XXYYXX - ABOUT YOU
Foxes and XXYYXX seem like electro-pop bands whilst Ben Howard is more of soft folk-rock sound. I decided to compare some of their music videos to see if any inspired me or gave me a better idea of the project I'm taking part in.
XXYYXX - ABOUT YOU
FOXES - HOME
The first thing I noticed about this music video is that it used a lot of close ups, which can be quite disorientating as the full object can't be seen. I like this idea and I'm going to consider suggesting the idea to my group, because it represents a different way of seeing things in day to day life. Just like the last video I looked at, a lot of focus pulls are used, but I doubt we'll be using these in my music video for the same reason as already stated. Things are shown in backward motion in some parts of this video and I really like this, so I'm definitely going to consider suggesting this to my group too. The whole video is from a girl's perspective, which is very similar to hat our group used as an initial idea, so we can look to this video for inspiration.
BEN HOWARD - ONLY LOVE
This video is shockingly similar to Home in the way it also uses focus pulls and disorientating close ups, and slow motion is used too, in a similar manner to XXYYXX's music video. The shots are also in time with the music like in About You too. Some parts show the artist Ben Howard singing himself, which our group doesn't intend to mirror as we want an entirely fictional feel to go with our final product.
This music video includes close ups of flying birds, which is something we want to use in our product to represent freedom. Point of view shots are used a lot in this video, which I've already discussed with my group. We like the idea of this as it would show the world from our main character's perspective.
